Sowing the Seeds of True Sustainability...

Intentions for rural Egypt

We are a team of young professionals, inspired by the Revolution to collaborate with partners as diverse as the challenges faced by rural Egypt. We are proponents of sustainable agriculture as the core driver for productive communities that flourish from the bottom-up. Our initiative, “Nawaya”, recognizes the need for development goals that are pro-poor and promote social and environmental justice.

Nucleus for co-creation

Our vision is the co-creation of self-reliant, bountiful and resilient Egyptian communities.”

Co-creation occurs when partnerships and dynamic knowledge-exchange focus on common goals determined by community needs. Our working approach has 3 steps: community participation in program design, education and training, and hands-on prototyping. Each step Nawaya takes is validated through community feedback, and our hub for research and innovation seeks to create community-centric, open-source, replicable models.

Synergy stimulates innovation

Nawaya seeks to harness community skills and build synergies that create viable business models and attractive employment opportunities for youth. Nawaya’s collective of expertise works as a learning network to innovate and apply good practice in the fields of sustainable land-use and agriculture, appropriate technology and educational curricula for rural development.

Nawaya was recently accepted into incubation with Nahdet el Mahrousa (NM), an Egyptian-based incubator for start-up social enterprises. Incubation under NM—a competitive process that only accepts the highest-caliber social entrepreneurs in Egypt—provides access to a range of tools, technical assistance, legal support, and networks. NM is providing Nawaya with business and management trainings, personalized mentorship, expert support, and networking opportunities.

In Arabic Nawaya means:
